Project Background
HYC will be kick starting a Zero Meat, Zero Plastic and Zero Waste weekend market named “Zero . Market” that will last a month, aiming to raise eco awareness and promote sustainable living.
The market's objective is to mainly target youths, young parents, and residents of Nee Soon.
The Zero Market will be located in the centre, but has plans to further expand into other outdoor city areas.
This requires the market to allow flexibility and be easily adjusted to new contexts and environments. Multi-functionality is needed for the market as well to sell and display other products.

Design Statement
To influence like-minded young individuals, and expose them to ways that sustainability can be integrated into their everyday lives. Although they may be environmentally aware, they may not understand how to contribute to it, thus through the pop-up market, educational installations will be implemented.
By incorporating the use of raw ecological materials and connectivity to nature, sustainability will be translated into the design of the pop-up market, showing that the entire market is going toward zero waste. The informal and open layout of the pop-up market and the tranquil space of the site will encourage conversations between the owner and customers.
The pop-up market's purpose of educating the public will
then be enhanced.
Rhythm achieved through repetition can be found throughout the architecture of Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre, along with their design
of spaces encourages youth to have a work-life balance.

Design Concept
Taking inspiration from a lotus flower and the way the petals open from the centre, showcasing many layers and sections, the Zero Market focuses on separation architecture and transparency.
Separation architecture seen in the pop-up stores' form, to allow intermixture of it's interior and exterior spaces.
Transparency in experience is implemented in the pop-up stores by utilising sheer fabric and bamboo, a creative material uniquely imbued with Chinese traditional aesthetic and ties in with the history of Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre.

These are some slides that showcase my developmental process and what I considered to achieve the key focuses of my pop-up stores.
To visualize the pop-up market shifting to outdoor city areas, one of the stores was photoshopped onto Orchard road.

Technical drawings for the joinery and detailing, and also the materials and finishes for this part of the project was done.
